My name is Lex, and yes, it is a whole name and is not short for anything.  For those of you that like words Lex is f.  Latin. for “law”.  I did not know what to put as my title but choose 'Social Explorer' because I enjoy people so much. Over the years it has amazed me how we as a species are so different yet so very much alike in the way we conduct our lives. In my work, I see the same patterns repeating themselves over and over again, although the circumstances very from one individual to the next; the overall pattern of basic human need remains the same. Maslow got it right.

It was this interest in how we has humans communicate, associate, and make the choices that ultimately define our lives and has lead me to where I am today. My profession is that of a Child Abuse Investigator and Family Mediator. This work takes me into almost every aspect of social theory on a first hand basis. Although it is a job I wish no one had to do; it is a job that is necessary and surprisingly rewarding.

I found over the years of doing this job that no one, unless they are seriously mentally ill, considers himself or herself to be an abusive or neglectful parent.  Yet why do we have child abuse? No one gets up in the morning saying,” It's a nice day, lets beat the kids!” yet we read of abuse everyday. The answer goes far deeper than correcting bad conduct, because it is found in the simplest of choices we make every minute of our waking hours.  The problem is in formal education, economic situations, single parenting with no support systems, teen pregnancy, and employment oppertunity. Therefore, I have come to realize that my job is more than an attempt to stop child abuse; rather to help parents make good, intelligent, reasoned choices about their lives and the young lives they touch.

A personal passion is my Toyota Prius. Since buying the Prius I became aware of just how much time and money I was spending on oil and gas. I started a Prius Hybrid Pod for people to share their own Prius experience and keep everyone up to date on Hybrid technology.
